Translation is a matter of linguistic technique… which naturally ages as the particulars of a language change. While there are no undying works, on principle there can be no undying translations. It is therefore imperative that new versions appear periodically in the same way that computer programs are updated. At the very least this provides a broader spectrum of choices, which can only benefit readers.

18. Watch more TV. Yeah, you heard right, Little Kareem. It’s great that you always have your nose in history books. That’s made you more knowledgeable about your past and it has put the present in context. But pop culture is history in the making and watching some of the popular shows of each era reveals a lot about the average person, while history books often dwell on the powerful people.

ok.

Subjective Well‐Being and Income: Is There Any Evidence of Satiation?*

Subjective Well‐Being and Income: Is There Any Evidence of Satiation?*:

“This is not a remake of American Pie, but you never know who is watching and recording.”

—

Actual line from a UT crime prevention tip telling students not to sexy-Skype with strangers. UT police really know how to connect to students with their culture.

That movie came out when I was 14. And for some reason I loved it? I saw it 4 times in theaters. This was right after theaters cracked down on letting unaccompanied minors into rated R movies, so I saw it with my or one of my friends’ parents each time, which, I know, gross.

Anyway, I saw that movie a lot and had a really hard time making the connection to the sexy-Skype crime. I feel for this police officer, who is probably my age, because I try to relate to 18 year olds all the time with even more dated references. Do you know none of them have seen Beverly Hills Cop? Like not a one. So in addition to library instruction, these kids get some pretty cool Netflix recommendations too.

Takeaways from this post:

Don’t: sexy-Skype with people you don’t know; they might be 14 OR your friends and/or the members of Blink 182 (plus a monkey) might be watching you.

Do: check out the films of Eddie Murphy in his prime

I referred to Chris O’Donnell one time and got a ton of puzzled looks. So I said, “He was Robin in Batman & Robin” which was just a huge mistake. After an appropriately awkward silence, one of them says, “Oh, he’s the guy in NCIS: Los Angeles” to which, honestly, I had no idea how to even respond. We moved on.

With an Act of Kindness, a Delaware Lady Vanishes -

With an Act of Kindness, a Delaware Lady Vanishes -:
bobbyfinger:
